Building Houses New adidas Laces Research and Development Building

Building Houses

"Starting from countless different approaches, what finally emerged was the idea of a ring-shaped building with a spacious atrium and connecting walkways, the “laces” (like the laces of a shoe), which give the structure its name on account of their particular geometry: crossing the airspace of the atrium, they connect office areas lying opposite each other on each level and thus “tie” the volume together to form an office building that is rich in multi-faceted relationships. The themes of movement and dynamism are ever-present in this way and convey to the employees the feeling of being part of the creative work process..." to find out more...

Building Houses Serlachius Art Museum Gösta Proposal by Eero Lunden Studio + Eric Tan of PinkCloud.DK

Building Houses

"Can the experience of art be enhanced through architecture?

White walls + Isolated Rooms = Good museum? Our design of the Serlauchius Museum extension seeks to deviate from that mantra by developing an architecture that directly facilitates human interaction with art. It is our firm belief that the experience of art can be enhanced through innovative architecture and new spatial experiences. The design of the Maison Promino seeks to achieve two main goals: to create an inspiring piece of architecture that will enhance the image of Serlachius Art Musuem globally and to provide a truly unique museum experience by connecting visitors with the art like never before...

AN UNINTERUPTED EXPERIENCE OF ART AND CULTURE

Retaining the concept of the art museum as a seamless space for visitors, the design contains as minimal obstructions as possible. This is achieved by connecting the various different functions of the museum through the use of an innovative structural system. Instead of utilizing a typical grid of columns, the structure is moved into the façade of the building in order to achieve an atmosphere of total continuity. "

Building Houses Venice CityVision - The Winning Entry by bam!

Building Houses

"Turin, Italy-based architects bam! have shared with us their entry for the Venice CityVision Competition (previously on Bustler) that was just recently awarded the First Prize. The team included Alberto Bottero, Simona Della Rocca, and Valeria Bruni...

The canal seen from the bridge appears as a uniform expanse in which the water, swallowed up, makes space for the foliage of the trees that caress the surface of the water. The green is not really on the water, but in it. You can see the reeds, the gardens and the poppies breaking through, and you can glimpse simple gestures of daily life. If, urged by curiosity, you were to go and visit one of those places, it would seem to you as though you are resting in a softened space, far from the frenzy of the city and the shuffling of tourists, far from the souvenir stalls and the cruise ships. It would seem to you to be present in a room enveloped by tree-lined walls and looking at the city’s buildings and at the sky – most of all at the sky – as through from a cradle..." to find out more...

Building Houses

"Headed by architect Winy Maas, research group The Why Factory challenges us to think big in regards to going green and conserving our natural resources. Making bold and slightly fantastical designs, the group’s plan for the Thai city of Phuket are both beautiful and self-sustaining. Part of an exhibition at Berlin’s Aedes am Pfefferberg, Why Factory’s submission is a series of water-lily like artificial islands that soak up the sun and convert it to energy...
The exhibition, entitled “Water- Curse or Blessing”, presents innovative projects for architectural and infrastructural advancement in regions of Asia that are near large bodies of water. Since 90% of residents of southeast Asia, as well as south and east of that live near water, the exhibition tackles the issues that are specific to these regions. Water may be everywhere, but these areas are still commonly afflicted by droughts, floods, and shortages of potable water."

Building Houses molo-Designed Nebuta House in Aomori, Japan

Building Houses

"Vancouver-based design and production studio molo has shared with us their project Nebuta House (ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ), a museum and center for creative culture in the Northern Japanese city of Aomori. In 2002, molo partners Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen won an international architecture competition for their design of a housing and community project in Aomori, Japan. The competition was judged by Tadao Ando and Jean Nouvel, and sponsored by the City of Aomori...
The building is enclosed by twisted steel ribbons, each shaped to create variation: openings for light, areas of opacity, views, or opportunities for pedestrian circulation. The ribbons were individually crafted during prefabrication, then manually adjusted on-site during installation. No part of the finished screen is the result of digital fabrication; like all things handmade, human intervention enlivens function. Inside, a shadowy dwelling for the Nebuta is shaped by the layers of screens and volumes of ancillary rooms. The interior is black – like a black box theatre – the volumetric juxtaposition accommodates many possible uses and perspectives..."

Building Houses

"A shelter up in the trees; a lightweight structure hung around a tree trunk, a 4x4x4 meters box clad in mirrored . The exterior reflects the surroundings and the sky, creating a camouflaged refuge. The interior is all made of plywood and the windows give a 360 degree view of the surroundings.

The construction also alludes to how man relates to nature, how we use high tech materials and products when exploring remote places in harsh climates (Gore-tex, Kevlar, composite materials, light weight tents etc..."

Building Houses Art installation at Clark Shoes International Headquarters / ROSO

Building Houses

" ROSO has launched a major art at Clark Shoes Headquarters in Street Somerset, South England. This was commissioned by Mr Lance Clark and is the first phase of two, of the art work situated in the communal court yard in the heart of Clarks office buildings...

The itself was developed from a single observation – Light is only seen when reflected. A light beam coming through a window is only visible because light is reflected in the millions of dust particles floating in the air.

Roso’s approach was to create a dynamic, ever changing space where the space itself would be a major part of the .

Two imaginary beams of light enter the courtyard from one end and travel through the space, penetrating the centre bridge building, one hitting the end wall up high, above the terrace and the other the side wall opposite this. The entire courtyard was painted white and the bottom was covered in black asphalt to turn the court yard into a canvas for the reflections and shadows from the ..." to find out more...

"The concept was to create a four-level diaphanous structure, which integrates all functions of living and working and yet offers enough privacy. All rooms and apartments are interlaced into each other and open not only to the outside but to the inside as well. This radically breaks with the classical scheme of a cube, which is bordered by four walls..." to find out more...

Building Houses

"Bjarke Ingels Group's (BIG's) first North American project – a mixed-use residential building for Durst Fetner Residential (DFR) on West 57th Street in Manhattan, New York – is a crossbreed between the Copenhagen courtyard and the New York skyscraper according to Bjarke Ingels, founder of BIG. West 57th will house 600 residential units, as well as cultural and commercial programs, in 870,000 sq. ft. (80,826 m2). Its unique shape, reminiscent of a warped pyramid, preserves preexisting view corridors down adjacent streets and maximizes natural light. The following press release, courtesy of BIG, explains more about West 57th, which should achieve LEED Gold certification.
“It’s extraordinarily exciting to build a building whose architecture will attract visitors from around the globe,” said Hal Fetner, CEO of Durst Fetner Residential. “BIG’s design is innovative, evocative, and unique, and the building’s beauty is matched only by its efficient and functional design that preserves existing view corridors while maximizing the new building’s access to natural light and views of the Hudson River. West 57th will establish a new standard for architectural excellence and its creative design, sustainable construction and operations, breathtaking views, and distinctive amenities will make it New York’s most sought-after residential address.”

Building Houses Plan Of The City - Skyscrapers on Mars

Interior Design “FLOATING OBSERVATORIES” - First Prize Winner at Taiwan Conceptual Tower Competition

Interior Design

"Starting from the 'geographical' visual of Taiwan - which is an island resembling a leaf - we have developed the concept of the technological tree: we have designed 8 spatial leaves (with eight being a propitious number in the local culture) in the form of zeppelin-like elevators which glide up and down the 'tree trunk" and which serve the purpose of observation decks / belvedere. I have called these elevators floating observatories because each has a nacelle which can take 50 to 80 people; they are self-sustained by helium balloons and are built from lightweight materials (borrowed from the spacecraft industry) and are wrapped in a last-generation type of membrane (PTFE) and they glide vertically on a track positioned vertically in a strong electro-magnetic field" - Dorin STEFAN, Principal, DSBA.." to find out more...

Interior Design Erick van Egeraat Builds the New Roskilde Incineration Line

Interior Design

"It is a contempoprary cathedral, close to the ground we shaped the building to reflect the angular factory roofs of the immediate surroundings”, says Erick van Egeraat. “We then let the building culminate in a 100 meter tall spire, which is an articulation of a fascinating and sustainable process in creating energy.”
The large, outspoken, amber-colored design is likely to become a new icon for the wide and open landscape of the Roskilde area. After its completion in 2013, the facility is not only processing a large part of the local waste. This process produces both electricity and heating for the Roskilde district.
Today, waste to energy transition can be regarded as one of the environmentally-friendliest methods of creating heat and energy. The new incineration line 6 will use the latest techniques and have a processing capacity from 260,000 to 350,000 ton per year. This will generate an output of electricity for 60,000 households each year..."

Interior Design Slow Up-rising by Ja Studio

Interior Design

"Here's the fascinating entry "Slow Up-rising" by Canadian firm Ja Studio to Solar Park South, the international ideas competition in Calabria, Italy. The competition brief called for a 'Solar Highway' by re-using Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway sections between Scilla and Bagnara to be decommissioned by the Italian Highways Authority...
The project emerges at the critical time when the demise of one of these giants appears on the horizon. A highway is about to be decommissioned as a new highway would create an even faster connection in its place. Our proposal is a gentle ramping platform that connects the top of the by-passing highway to the bottom of the valley. This connecting platform through time would allow a new form of life to appear. The mono-functional body that once cast shadow on its immediate surroundings would start to get populated with life and through time would turn into a unique mix of habitat and infrastructure. The gradual re-appearance of the small would both safeguard the extra-large and also introduces new possibilities for the co-existence of the two..." to find out more...

Interior Design Nuvist Architecture & Design’s Entry to Izmir Opera House Competition

Interior Design

"Art has a great role in showing what happens in human beings' life. Soul, intelligence and the emotions are the reflections of the community, and Art forms the social identities of communities. It also shows us the difference between the various social identities. Global influences effect the types of knowledge acquisitions or the social values in the art, and the artists determine the standards of modern life...

Thus, art centers have many roles beside their fundamental functions that should be participant, shared with society and create a modern level in connection between the citizens and the artists' works. This concept is the key criteria for the Izmir Opera House Project. The project should be reflecting the history, the culture and the modern life in Izmir, furthermore it should be an identity for the city of Izmir..." to find out more...

Interior Design Crossbox: Beautiful Modular Container Home in France

Interior Design

"CGARCHITECTES designed and built this stunning “Crossbox” house composed of four prefabricated containers in Brittany, France. The modern residence is clad in a low-maintenance material for a sleek finish, while the inside is simply furnished and bright. The top of the bottom box features a green roof at either end, which provides an extra planting region for the home. Meanwhile the overhang of the top box provides shade for a deck area and a mini car...
Crossbox is composed of four “containers”, two on the bottom and two on the top stacked crosswise, with living and dining areas on the bottom and bedrooms up top. Although the home definitely seems like it would be a bit out of place in a traditional neighborhood, it’s a lovely, well executed example of prefab architecture that could be easily replicated with shipping containers.Read more: CGArchitectes Builds Beautiful Modular Container House Inhabitat - Green Design Will Save the World " to find out more...

Interior Design The Guggenheim Void has been Contemplated: Public Submission Winners Announced

Interior Design

"Five winners have been announced in Guggenheim's open call for submissions to reimagine the museum's rotunda. This public event followed the highly publicized invitational and exhibition hosted by the NYC museum from February to April of this year.
Contemplating the Void curators Nancy Spector, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, and David Van Der Leer, Assistant Curator for Architecture and Design, have selected the following five winning submissions...
In
The Buried Void, a stream of sand falls continuously from the oculus at the top of the Guggenheim into the museum and collects on the rotunda floor. For fifty years the sand will gradually fill the void, stopping on October 21, 2059 (the 100th anniversary of the Guggenheim) when it will have filled the space completely. Until then, guests in the building will be encouraged to experience and actively participate in this measure of time: as the physical objects in their lives become obsolete, visitors are encouraged to place them into museum-provided capsules and throw them into the sand..." to find out more...
