House Design Plan

Chandeliers, cool chandeliers, decorative chandeliers, modern chandeliers, original chandeliers, unique lamps, wonderful lampDid you like matters in the style art deco? Carried out by me. Light was suspended this was sent by Philippe Starck for Baccarat Collection. This beauty was acknowledged as Marie Coquine. Light was suspended united the umbrella and light some typical with classic crystal. This combination was real! Light was suspended was made from crystal, plastic and the umbrella. As light was not simple, then will agree only interiors art deco or possibly that surealistik. I thought this not only chandelier, that almost one object of art. Light was suspended this symbolised that you were defended from rain with the umbrella. Light was suspended this gave several warm feelings of the blessing to the umbrella with the hands of wood.

Interior Bathroom Lighting – Light Up the Small bathroom

Online Interior Design Schools

VIA
Although there are many options for large bathrooms, people with little wonder how they can improve. Put devices is a good way to change the look of small square better, so the experience is much better in the morning. This is where you start your day and you need to be pleasant for the rest of the waking hours. There are many designs that you can choose if you have a good budget. Also important is where the bathroom lighting will be done on the bare wall, tiled area above the shower, marble or ceramic sink. As a general guide light and neutral colors are best. dark tones take up space and give the illusion of space restriction.
A small bathroom should not be just covered by a great light. Zones can be divided to have two or three types of lighting bathroom. Where additional lighting is used, it gives a feeling of wider space. Each bathroom must also have windows for natural light to fall, keeping the bathroom open for a few hours in the day, lets keep it free from germs. Install a skylight and see the difference in space.
Since the stores bathroom kit medicines and toiletries, many people install a huge wardrobe. Is it necessary to put a ray of light? Of course, it is necessary, how do you know what you need in the dark. Besides keeping things limited in the bathroom, which require good lighting, try to put small lights or lamps that have a pure utility value. A small bathroom does not require a setting and too many firms. But it needs a stable material for the light source to provide illumination. A pendant light is hardly of any use when needed at night. Make small bathroom look spacious and well lit with lighting quality above and not on the eyes (wait in the office). Look at the different types of bathroom lighting. Check if lighting is appropriate in the bathroom. If it does not change, no dealer will mind if you come back the next day.
The controlled use of light in laundry rooms can begin their day in peace and without worries. Do makeup and shaving requires good lighting above the mirror. A combination of natural light can make the appropriate calendars bathroom right look.

House Building Happy, Happy Birthday!

House Building

(lamps via: Decor 8 and chandelier via 1st dibs)
To me!! Yay!
I am one of those obnoxious persons who likes to tell everyone about my birthday! You know I want to wear a big button on my shirt that talks about it, or a birthday tiara. When I was a kid I never understood why I didn't get an automatic day off from school on my special day!
So, I am going to tell all of you about it today. Ha, ha! I am turning the big 34! It freaks me out a bit, because I've always imagined the threshold for being a "mature adult" as turning 35. Now I only have one year to really get my act together. Aahhh, I don't know if I'm ready!
To celebrate, I put together a wish list of gifts, for myself. I thought some of you might enjoy it also:)
I would take anything and everything from this shop. It was a struggle to keep it down to only three!
Funny enough, this month also marks the second anniversary of my blog. I am reminded how much I have loved getting to know so many wonderful people via this site. I appreciate all of you who stop in to check on me everyday:) I hope to keep writing this for a long time and I hope to get to know all of you more and more.
So thanks everyone!

House Building War Of The Worlds

House Building

Did you ever see that movie? The original one I mean, (don't get me started on my negative feelings about Tom Cruise!) These incredible light fixtures remind me of the alien spaceships, attacking the Earth. Remember that creepy sound they made? That movie was a family favorite at my house :)

See more of this Parisian restaurant on Dezeen.
P.S. I'm on my way to Round Top! More info later:)

House Building Well, Thanks Apartment Therapy!

House Building

On Monday, I wrote about different approaches to lighting a home painted in very dark colors.
As if on cue, Apartment Therapy posted a home that uses both natural lighting and dramatic artificial lighting.
I guess the 10 emails a day from them, paid off;)

Interior Design Call Me Crazy, But Now I Like Brass.

Interior Design

If I wasn't the one writing this statement, I would never believe it. ME? Liking brass? I'm the one who has made people get rid of their brass objects anytime I could! But now, I can't seem to keep my eyes off of it. Just this week, I was at my favorite thrift store, and couldn't resist picking up these brass items. First, I was attracted to the four floral drawer pulls. Their color and shape was so wonderful, I just had to have them. Plus, its not often you can find a set of pulls for a reasonable price. The second photo, is of brass chimes. I thought they were rattles at first, but they weigh about 5lbs. each. The funny thing is, I looked at them and then put them back down. Right after that, a woman walking by picked them up. So, of course you know what happened next. As soon as she put the chimes back down, I ran over and grabbed them. Now, what am I going to do with these finds? Well, I haven't figured out that part. I'm just glad I didn't come out with all the other brass items I saw. Why am I liking brass so much? (I would like to clarify, that I like antique brass...no shiny stuff from the 80's) I think a lot of it is the retro feel, which I love so much. Also, its just so different from everything thats out there. The good thing is I am not the only one who is smitten with brass. Here are just a few cool and modern brass details.
The Jonathan Adler sconce is so sophisticated and fun at the same time. It reminds me of something you might see in a chic, 1960's movie. In the same room, I would love to add this vintage Baker coffee table from 1st dibs. I actually saw a table just like it recently, and loved its sculptural qualities. Finally, also from 1st dibs, I found this 1970's "Skyscraper" chandelier. I like it because it doesn't read as "70's" only. It would look just as great in a more traditional setting; to me it also has a "Craftsman" quality.

Interior Design Trapeze Light.

Interior Design

I made up the name of trapeze light. Its actually called a Suspension lamp, but it reminds me of a trapeze, so that's what I'm calling it. There is such a delicate balance to all the parts. What a conversation piece.
P.S. I forgot where I found this lamp originally. Sorry.building houses

Interior Design Add Some Glitz and Sparkle to Your Home.

Interior Design

Most of us have heard of the idea that every great room needs "jewelry" just as every great outfit does. I couldn't agree more. I love adding sparkle in varying amounts wherever I can. The room above is from Ochre. Their beautiful custom chandelier compliments the muted colors and matte finishes.

Above and below are a few examples of a modern take on sparkle for a room.

If your style is more classic, check out the fabulous room from Albert Pinto. An amazingly talented designer, Pinto balances many types of finishes that result in a luxurious yet inviting room. Below are pieces I love that would give some glamor to almost any room.

Interior Design Interior Design: Lighting

Interior Design

One of the experts we recommend to our clients who are building a new home and need help selecting appropriate light fixtures for their home is Ellen Winkler, CEO and principal of Ellen’s Interiors on Main Street in New London, New Hampshire. Her 3000 square foot showroom features a lighting display, fine furnishings, kitchen & bath fixtures, granite & tile displays, area rugs, carpet samples, decorative accessories, and wall art. I had the opportunity to talk to Ellen recently to find out what her potential clients are concerned about the most in regard to designing the interior of their home.

Not surprisingly, one of the top concerns folks have about interior design is lighting. When clients bring up the subject of lighting, Ellen says she puts her clients at ease, explaining that lighting style and efficiency, as well as basic lighting elements are more easily addressed after each room is evaluated for its purpose and use.

Addressing lighting efficiency, Ellen helps clients decide how much light they actually need, rather than how much they think they need. “I talk about lighting elements and their uses in the home,” Ellen explains, “and we discuss ambient lighting for general indoor and outdoor activities, task lighting for specific areas such as under-counter kitchen lights, table lamps, or bathroom mirror lights, and accent lighting to showcase aesthetics such as sculpture and art.”

Our visual performance depends on the location of the light as well as quality and quantity. “An example of this is a client who has a specific sculpture they would like to showcase,” Ellen says. “We discuss the angle of the light as well as the type. For instance, placing the lighting unit above the sculpture will produce a lot of angles and shadow. Lighting placed below the sculpture will highlight the texture of the piece. We talk about their specific goals in displaying the sculpture and the results they would like to achieve to determine the location of the lighting units.”

For kitchen lighting, Ellen likes to use a rack system for under and display cabinet lighting applications, such as this Xenon fixture. The photo here demonstrates the system nicely. (photo courtesy WAC Lighting)

Ellen explains, “We like this low voltage system for several reasons: 1) The Xenon bulb has a rated life of 8,000 to 20,000 hours making it a good financial and long term choice; 2) The Xenon bulb is dimmable and is available in a variety of sizes for a variety of lighting needs; 3) The Xenon bulb does not emit much heat, and can be specified for use in compact designs, such as cabinet, soffit and cove lighting applications without maintaining a huge distance from combustible surfaces; and 4) Xenon bulbs emit a warm light, which is nice aesthetically and does not present health problems for people who are sensitive to florescent lighting.” The photo below shows the Xenon rack system under the cabinets (photo courtesy Ellen’s Interiors).

More light is not necessarily better, as some may think. “After identifying the ambient, task, and accent lighting areas, I create a lighting plan identifying the number of footcandles (a unit which measures the intensity of illumination) in each room. Hallways and other areas that require only ambient lighting can require only about 4-5 footcandles. On the other hand, areas where specific tasks are performed, say an office or bathroom vanity, may require 45 or more footcandles, depending on the intensity of the task.”

Concerns about lighting are minimized when you work with an architect and experienced interior designer.
